My desk

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 24, 2013, 6:36 AM
Alrighty, finally the Cintiq arrived!

It was at the post-office yesterday already, but I was delivering an oilpainting to a customer so I wasn't able to pick it up... T^T
Well, today I went to see a dentist and their office is right next to the post-office, so I got two birds with one stone! :D (and a 321€ bill for my teeth being fixed, omfg. x_x)

Aaaaaanyway! Here's how it fits into my desk:

This image does not represent the truth that is my desk, though; usually it's cluttered with coffee-cups, trash and things that could be better suited elsewhere but I've left them on my table for whatever reason and they take up a lot space! </lazy>

But yeah, so basically the thing arrived in one piece (phew), had all necessary pieces and cords included and the installation didn't take too long either. Happy happy! It seems to be working just fine. :aww: *crosses fingers too though..!*
I still need to fix the colors to be more accurate, that's gonna take a while probably. But other than that, all is well. :B

Thanks, it is quite comfy! I especially love my chair 'cause it's so easy to adjust and I can sit with my legs crossed despite the hand-rests. :D It'll break down sometime soon tho, I got it around 12 years go... >__>

Well, I test-used one before for a while and was so pleasantly surprised that I couldn't even imagine going back to my intuos that I've been using for a decade. :D SO yeah, it's a major difference, drawing feels completely different and my shoulder-aches (which were caused by drawing on the intuos) have lessened a lot. :)

Congrats on getting it!

Color calibration sure is annoying. I pretty much gave up on using the adaptor box to adjust the colors and decided to trust the factory settings. If you have access to a colorimeter though or decide to buy one, it'll be much faster.

Yeah, I'l have to fine-tune it soon, I wanna start painting something hehe. *__* I don't have a colorimeter so I just have to do it the old-fashioned way. D:

I tried manual calibration a while back on my macbook pro. Most useless feature ever, since macbook screens had really bad viewing angle color shifts. The IPS panels in the new Retina equipped macbooks are a lot better, but I don't see myself buying another mac, despite being ingrained in OS X now. Would probably just run a hackintosh setup.

I'm super happy for you! I may get a cintiq soon once I settle down a bit with my free lancing career @.@
Have you tested it out enough already? I know when I had an old school cintiq (I can't remember the title of it, haha) the pen's nib and the cursor were a tiny bit off, and it kinda drove me crazy >_>

I had a cintiq on loan earlier and got to test it out for a while and I looooved it! And now that I have my own one, I love it just as much. :) Still need to tune the settings a bit though.

The cursor can be adjusted easily to match the viewing angle from wacom tablet properties -> tablet -> calibrate.
It will give you X's on all corners that you need to click, that will adjust the cursor to be accurate based on the angle you're viewing the tablet's screen from. :) And you can adjust it 'till it's perfect.

12wx, it has active area of about 26x16 cm so it's quite small, but convenient. :)

Oh this size is actually really convenient, the bigger cintiqs on the other hand are not (in my opinions, then again it depends on what kind of lines one wants to draw etc.)
You have to take into account that unlike intuos or other traditional tablets, the screen of cintiq holds the whole program-window with palettes and tool-selections etc, so maybe half of the active area is for the picture and the rest is used by other stuff.

That might very well be. *__* Luckily the japanese game-company bought a few more illustrations from me so it helps to cover the dentist's bill a bit.
And at least now my teeth are nice and polished, x-rayed, fixed and generally healthy and perfect. FINALLY. I went through a 10 year dentist-hell because the public dental service sucks in Finland. I go to private dentist now, it's expensive but on the long run it's cheaper since I don't have to have some broken tooth fixed dozen times due to crappy dentist's mistakes. GAH! :pissed:

Yeah, I hate dentists, one of my front teeth sticks out a little, and they said they can't do anything about it!

Augh, how annoying that must be! :( They should be able to fill the gap tho..? People who have a big gap between their front teeth for example have the gap filled sometimes, right?

I guess they might know what they're doing, but if you happen to see another dentist ask them for a second opinion.
I had to go to three different dentists 'till one of them agreed to take an xray and noticed that one tooth had split inside, the whole root! And they pulled it out. Would've saved me a lot of money for my tooth-implant-fund had the first one listened to my problem instead of lecturing that there's nothing wrong and I'm wasting their time. >___> (this is why I use private dentist these days, the public-sector takes no responsibility and doesn't care).

The one I go to now is a totally sweet and caring person tho, she seems to like her job and is very thorough! But that's 'cause she gets paid well I guess. XD
Their reception-room always has orchids on a vase and lit candles and all, I was a little shocked when I went there the first time lol! :D

Yeah, it used to be like 1000€ a bit over week ago, then suddenly it was just 700€. :D Might be because there's a competitor, a chinese cintiq-copy-thingy, on the market now so wacom will have to lower the prices to compete.

A competitor? Awesome! I'm not in the same country, but it's the same over here so far. There's actually a refurbished one for what would be 450EU! o_o

The competitor, yiynova, has gotten good reviews, but I'm old-fashioned I guess and like to use a wacom... so I decided to pay more and get a cintiq.

Oh noes! :ohnoes: Let's hope it's not a bad omen. Let's pretend it's sarcasm. >.>
On an unrelated note, I sometimes grow potatoes on my balcony during summer-time; they have nice leaves and grow tiny white flowers too. There's not that many potatoes in a small flowerpot in the autumn though, but it's an easy and durable plant just for aesthetic reasons haha.

I sure do! :) There's only enough for one meal by the time I collect them, but it's fun to eat balcony-grown potatoes. :D They really don't demand much, I mean they usually grow out on the field on their own... if they look droopy, give them water, if it's been raining and the soil is wet, don't give them any more water haha. :D They're really easy to grow, no hassle. I grow onions sometimes too, they make long trunks with a nice big flower on top! :)

I don't like to spend much money on balcony-flowers cause they're usually so much trouble, hehe.
